Passage des soupirs

The Passage des Soupirs is a narrow, covered alleyway tucked between apartment buildings in the twentieth arrondissement. Its name translates to the Passage of Sighs. Local folklore suggests the title comes from the mournful sounds of workers at a nearby nineteenth-century factory, though other stories link the name to lovers meeting in the shadows of the path. It remains one of the few surviving private walkways in the neighborhood that still maintains its original iron gate and cobblestone floor from its construction.
