The Temple de la Sybille sits atop a jagged rock in the middle of a lake, perched at the end of a narrow suspension bridge. It is a small, circular rotunda of Corinthian columns, built by Gabriel Davioud during the reign of Napoleon the Third. It replaced a former gallows that once stood on these heights. When the park opened in eighteen sixty-seven, workmen hauled massive amounts of dynamite to blast this cliff into its current, dramatic shape to create the centerpiece of the landscape.
