The Paris Philharmonic wears a curved, metallic skin covered in shards of aluminum that look like birds in flight. Jean Nouvel designed this concert hall to replace the older Salle Pleyel, aiming for acoustics that prioritize intimacy over sheer size. During the opening gala in twenty fifteen, the architect boycotted his own building, protesting that the project was unfinished and rushed. The stage remains one of the few places in Paris where the audience surrounds the orchestra on every side.
