Passage Gauthier

The Passage Gauthier is a narrow, cobblestone alley that cuts between the dense apartment blocks of the nineteenth arrondissement. Unlike the grand, covered passages of central Paris, this path remains open to the sky, flanked by simple brick facades and weathered iron shutters. It exists because the city planners squeezed it between private land plots in the late nineteenth century. Local residents still keep small wooden planters near their front doors, where vines occasionally tangle with the rusted hinges of old workshop gates.
