Le marché couvert Beauvau

The Marché Beauvau is distinguished by a central rotunda topped with a zinc roof and four symmetrical wings that extend toward the surrounding streets. Built in eighteen forty-three, this structure replaced an open-air market that once clogged the neighborhood with temporary wooden stalls. When the butcher Maurice Boucher arrived here in the nineteen thirties, he insisted on hanging his carcasses from brass hooks that remain in place today. He became a neighborhood fixture, serving local residents until he finally retired in nineteen eighty-four.
