The Church of Saint Jean Bosco rises above the Rue de Charonne with a facade of bright, jagged concrete and a single, soaring tower that resembles a radio mast more than a traditional steeple. Built in the nineteen thirties, the church honors the founder of the Salesian order, a priest who dedicated his life to working with poor boys in Turin. Architects Charles Lemaresquier and Djo-Bourgeois designed the structure in the Art Deco style to serve the working class families of this eastern district.
