Musée national de l'histoire de l'immigration

The Palais de la Porte Dorée features a sprawling, low-relief facade covered in carved limestone animals, foliage, and human figures representing the diverse reaches of the former French colonial empire. Built for the nineteen thirty-one Colonial Exhibition, the building served to showcase the economic potential of overseas territories. Inside, the Musée national de l'histoire de l'immigration tells the story of those who arrived in France from those same colonies and beyond, documenting the personal belongings and political struggles of generations of migrants.
