Portail du château de Conflans

You are standing before the ornamental iron gate of what was once the Château de Conflans. This structure remains as one of the few surviving fragments of a grand estate that dominated this riverfront landscape for centuries. The gate itself dates to seventeen seventy-seven and was designed by the architect Pierre Desmaisons. It is supported by two limestone pillars topped with decorative stone urns known as pots-à-feu. While the gate still stands, the magnificent palace that once sat behind it was dismantled in stages during the twentieth century.
