The Vélodrome de Vincennes sits tucked behind a high, grassy embankment inside the Bois de Vincennes, identifiable by its expansive, circular track and the weathered stone grandstands that trace the edge of the field. This arena served as the main stadium for the eighteen ninety-six and nineteen hundred Olympic Games. During the nineteen hundred games, the track hosted events for months, ending with the finish of a marathon where a runner named Fred Lorz was briefly declared the winner after hitching a ride in a car.
