The Pagode de Vincennes stands out because of its distinct, bright orange roof and the towering, gold-leafed Buddha statue housed inside the former military commissariat building. Originally constructed for the nineteen thirty-one Colonial Exhibition, the structure moved from its previous location in Paris to this quiet spot near the lake. It now serves as the International Buddhist Institute. In the seventies, it became the headquarters for the French Buddhist Union, hosting regular ceremonies where monks chant in the shadow of that gilded statue.
