The Escalier hélicoïdal is a tight, circular metal staircase painted a striking, weathered green. It twists upward like a corkscrew, connecting the street level to the elevated Coulée Verte, a park built atop the abandoned Vincennes railway line. When the city converted this old train viaduct into a public walkway in the late nineteen eighties, engineers needed a way for pedestrians to reach the path from the sidewalk. This industrial spiral became the primary access point for early visitors to the garden.
