Two massive bronze statues stand on stone pedestals at the Porte de Vincennes, marking the historic boundary of Paris. These figures represent the Republic and Peace, sculpted by Gabriel Thomas and August Suchetet. They originally stood at the Place de la Nation before moving here in the early twentieth century. The gate serves as a junction where the old city wall met the road to the royal chateau at Vincennes, and these statues watch over the heavy traffic flowing in and out today.
