L'Oeil du Lac (Maison du Garde)

The building you see, known as the Maison du Garde, stands at the edge of the Lac de Saint-Mandé. It once served a practical role as the home for the park keeper who maintained the surrounding grounds. Its presence highlights the shift in this area during the nineteenth century, when the former marshy ponds of the medieval period were transformed into the carefully manicured landscape of the Bois de Vincennes.
