You are approaching a site where two distinct eras of history are fused into one structure. Beneath your feet and surrounding you are the remains of the Thermes de Cluny, a massive Roman bath complex from the first and second centuries. These ruins represent one of the most significant pieces of the ancient city known as Lutetia. During its peak, the complex served as a social hub for citizens to bathe, exercise, and socialize. Look closely at the walls, and you may spot the original stone and mortar that have endured for nearly two thousand years.
