Fontaine du Fellah

The Fontaine du Fellah stands as a striking relic of French obsession with the East, constructed in eighteen hundred and six during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte. The fountain was one of fifteen commissioned by the emperor to provide fresh drinking water to the city while simultaneously commemorating his military campaigns in Egypt. You will notice its distinctive neo-Egyptian temple design, which was intended to bring the aesthetic of those conquests directly to the streets of Paris.
