The name Hôtel Crozat refers to two distinct historic properties, and understanding the difference is essential to uncovering the history of this area. The most famous residence by this name stands on the Place Vendôme, where it serves as the oldest surviving structure on that iconic square. Built between seventeen hundred and seventeen hundred and two for the wealthy financier Antoine Crozat, it was designed by the architect Pierre Bullet to showcase the immense fortune its owner amassed through colonial trade.
