Café de Flore

Café de Flore takes its name from a statue of Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers and spring, which once stood across the street on the boulevard. Since opening in the late eighteen eighties, the café has served as a central fixture of Parisian intellectual life. Its signature look of scarlet leather banquettes, dark mahogany, and large mirrors was finalized during an Art Deco renovation in the nineteen thirties, and the interior has remained largely unchanged since the end of the Second World War.
