Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés

religious

You are approaching the Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the oldest church in Paris. It stands as a survivor of over fifteen centuries of history, having been founded in the sixth century by King Childebert to house a precious relic brought back from a military campaign in Spain. The name of the surrounding neighborhood actually comes from this very site, as the church was originally located in the green meadows, or prés, that lay well outside the medieval walls of the city.
