Pentemont Abbey began its life far from the center of Paris, founded in twelve seventeen near the town of Beauvais. It was only in sixteen seventy-two that King Louis the Fourteenth ordered the Cistercian community to relocate to this site on the Rue de Grenelle. The move transformed a provincial monastery into one of the most elite institutions in the capital, eventually becoming a fashionable school for the daughters of the French nobility.
