Café du Croissant

The yellow awning of the Cafe du Croissant sits at the corner of Rue Montmartre and Rue du Croissant. On the evening of July thirty-first, nineteen fourteen, Jean Jaures sat at a table by the window. He was a prominent pacifist leader trying to prevent French involvement in the coming world war. A young nationalist stepped up to that window and fired two shots through the glass. Jaures died instantly, and the dream of stopping the conflict died with him.
