Passage du Caire

The Passage du Caire is the longest and oldest covered passage in Paris. Its three narrow, glass-roofed galleries date to seventeen ninety-nine, built to celebrate Napoleon Bonaparte’s Egyptian campaign. Above the entrance on Rue du Caire, three stone statues of the goddess Hathor look down at the street, their cow ears and horns sculpted into the facade. These galleries once housed printers and engravers, and today the space serves as a bustling center for the wholesale garment industry.
