The Orange Cube glows like a vibrant, rusted beacon against the gray industrial backdrop of the Saone riverbank. Architects Jakob and MacFarlane hollowed out a massive, perforated sphere from the center of this otherwise rigid, five-story box to pull light deep into the workspaces. When the building opened in twenty ten, the bold color and Swiss-cheese facade shocked the local docks. It serves as a headquarters for design and architecture firms who work within its porous, light-filled chambers.
