The Confluence in Lyon sits exactly where the brown, sediment-heavy Rhône meets the deep green Saône. City planners eventually chose this site to anchor a massive redevelopment project, replacing the rusted tracks and abandoned factories with modern glass-and-steel architecture. The neighborhood now draws crowds because of this point, where the two rivers merge into a single, wider flow heading south toward the Mediterranean Sea.
