Basilica of St. Severin

This church sits atop a former Roman burial ground, dating back to the late fourth century when the first chapel honored the city's patron saint. Centuries later, in twelve thirty-seven, workers discovered the remains of Saint Severin himself beneath the floor. They placed his relics in a golden shrine, turning the site into a major pilgrimage destination for travelers crossing the Rhine.
