Deutzer Brücke

The Deutzer Brücke spans the Rhine with a distinctive, thin steel profile that sits remarkably low against the Cologne skyline. This bridge replaces the massive, heavy stone structures that stood here before World War Two. When engineers designed the current span in nineteen forty-eight, they chose a hollow box girder construction. It held the world record for the longest span of its type at the time. Its primary job is moving traffic between the old city and the Deutz district across the river.
