Blaue-Funken-Turm (Sachsenturm); Eventlocation

The Sachsenturm stands out as a thick, round stone tower capped with a pointed, slate-covered roof, wedged into the remaining line of Cologne’s medieval city walls. Built in the thirteenth century, it served as a defensive gateway for the city. During the Second World War, Allied bombs gutted the interior, leaving little but the exterior masonry. The Blaue Funken, a local carnival society, took over the ruins in the nineteen-sixties, rebuilding the tower into their headquarters and private event space.
