Fish Market

The Fischmarkt features rows of narrow, gabled houses painted in bright, candy-colored facades that lean slightly against one another along the Rhine. These buildings replaced the medieval structures destroyed during the Second World War, reconstructed in the nineteen seventies to mirror the city's historical silhouette. In the late Middle Ages, fishmongers hauled their daily catch from the river straight to these stalls. Today, the square remains defined by the Saint Martin Church tower looming directly over the waterfront.
