Basilika St. Ursula

The Basilica of Saint Ursula features a golden chapel wall encrusted with thousands of human bones arranged in intricate, decorative patterns. This church occupies the site where Ursula, a Romano-British princess, reportedly faced martyrdom alongside eleven thousand companions at the hands of the Huns. While the story remains legend, the wall reflects a medieval obsession with relics. In the seventeenth century, craftsmen embedded these remains directly into the masonry, creating a somber yet ornate memorial that survives inside the north transept.
