Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace

Teak wood pillars carved with floral patterns support the two stories of Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace. Completed in seventeen ninety-one, this structure served as the ruler’s retreat from the heat of his official residence. Tipu Sultan chose teak for its durability and scent, filling the rooms with the smell of the wood. During the Anglo-Mysore wars, he managed state affairs from these balconies, keeping a close eye on his troops while his family lived in the quarters above.
