The Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple rises as a white, multi-tiered structure designed in the shape of the sacred syllable Om. Eight separate shrines occupy the complex, each dedicated to a different manifestation of the goddess Lakshmi. In the nineteen seventies, the Kanchi Shankaracharya suggested building a sanctuary for these eight forms in Chennai. Before this, devotees struggled to find one space to worship all aspects of her grace. Now, the ocean breeze sweeps directly across the inner chambers where the goddess resides.
