The statue of Saint Francis of Assisi stands on a rocky outcrop above the sea, holding a wolf by his side. It is a bronze depiction of the saint, who is said to have tamed the ferocious wolf of Gubbio through peace and prayer. The sculpture overlooks the entrance to the harbor of Monterosso al Mare. It marks the path leading toward the Capuchin friars’ monastery, which has perched on this headland since the early seventeenth century.
