The structure sits in the Hatajuku district with a roof of thick, dark thatch that dips low over the wooden walls. This is Ruchie no Yadorigi, a former rest house for travelers traversing the steep mountain paths of the old Tokaido road. During the Edo period, porters and pilgrims stopped here to rest their legs. A local woman named Ruchie kept the house, and legend says she offered weary travelers a simple, comforting space to trade their exhaustion for a bowl of tea.
