Lemyethna Temple

The Lemyethna Temple features a distinct, whitewashed exterior shaped like a cube, topped by a prominent sikhara spire. King Htilominlo commissioned this structure in the early thirteenth century as a place for meditation. Monks spent their days in its narrow, vaulted corridors, shielded from the heat of the plains. A local monk named Shin Arahan once used this temple to debate Buddhist philosophy with visiting scholars, often pointing to the faded murals inside that illustrate scenes from the jataka tales.
