Paya Thone Zu

other

Paya Thone Zu consists of three distinct temples joined by narrow, vaulted passageways. Its most recognizable feature is the series of faded, yet remarkably preserved, frescoes that coat the interior walls and ceilings. These murals date back to the thirteenth century and depict bodhisattvas and floral patterns in vibrant reds and greens. Workers abandoned the site abruptly before the final exterior plastering could be finished. You can still see the raw brickwork exposed where the stucco layer stops mid-wall, frozen in the year thirteen hundred.
