Gu Byauk Gyi Myin Kabar

The Gu Byauk Gyi temple in Myinkapa is marked by its thick, windowless masonry walls and a distinctively pointed sikhara tower rising above the flat landscape. Built in the early twelfth century by Prince Rajakumar, the temple houses a collection of frescoes depicting scenes from the Jataka tales. Rajakumar commissioned this structure to gain merit for his father, King Kyansittha, while the king lay dying. His inscription on a stone pillar inside remains one of the primary historical sources for the era.
