Boudha Stupa Thanka Centre

The Boudha Stupa Thanka Centre sits tucked inside a multi-story building overlooking the massive white dome of the Boudhanath Stupa. Its walls hold hundreds of hand-painted thangkas, intricate religious scrolls that require months of patient brushwork to complete. In the late nineteen seventies, local masters established this space to ensure the traditional techniques of ground mineral pigments and silk mounting did not vanish. Artists here spend their days mixing crushed lapis lazuli and gold leaf while pilgrims walk the perimeter of the stupa below.
