Buddha Stupa

The Boudhanath Stupa rises as a massive white dome topped by a golden tower painted with the unblinking eyes of the Buddha. Pilgrims circle its base, spinning prayer wheels set into the stone walls. In the fifth century, King Mandev built the original structure to fulfill a vow, but its current scale dates to the fourteenth century. Legend says a woman asked the king for land, and when he granted her a hide-sized patch, she cut it into thin strips to enclose this entire space.
