Ikhachhen

The Kumbheshwar Temple stands out with its five-tiered roof, a rare structure in the Kathmandu Valley. Local legend says that when the temple was built in the fourteenth century, the priest discovered a subterranean spring beneath the ground. He believed this water traveled all the way from the sacred Gosaikunda Lake, high in the Himalayas. Even today, during the festival of Janai Purnima, pilgrims gather here to bathe in the water, convinced they are washing away their sins in the distant mountain lake.
