The Ayvansaray bahçe features a series of terraced stone walls that drop steeply toward the Golden Horn. These layers were once part of the Byzantine era sea defenses, but they now serve as the foundation for a quiet neighborhood park. In the late nineteen nineties, local residents cleared the overgrown rubble that had accumulated here for decades. They hauled away truckloads of debris, planted fruit trees, and built the wooden benches that sit overlooking the water today.
