Eğrikapı is marked by its jagged, crooked archway, set within a narrow section of the ancient Theodosian Walls. The name means crooked gate, reflecting how the street shifts abruptly to navigate the massive stone fortifications. Sultan Mehmed the Second entered the city through this gate in fourteen fifty-three after the final breach. It served as a vital entrance for centuries, linking the inner city to the outer settlements, and the stones bear the marks of repairs made after the Great Istanbul Earthquake.
