Trafalgar Square

The ground you are walking on was once the King’s Mews, where the monarch kept his hawks and horses for centuries. This site served as the royal stables from the fourteenth century until the 1820s, when King George the Fourth decided to clear the area to create a grand open space. The relocation of these stables to Buckingham Palace eventually allowed for the development of the square you see today.
