Sir Winston Churchill statue

The twelve-foot bronze statue of Sir Winston Churchill stands on the north-east corner of Parliament Square, a site the former Prime Minister himself allegedly chose during a discussion about the area's redesign in the nineteen-fifties. He reportedly drew a circle on a map of the square and pointed to that very spot, marking where he wished his future likeness to reside. When the sculpture was finally unveiled in nineteen seventy-three, it was his widow, Clementine Churchill, who performed the honors, as Queen Elizabeth the Second felt it appropriate that the task fall to his family rather than the monarch.
