The Guards Museum

The Guards Museum is housed within the walls of Wellington Barracks, which serves as the active headquarters for the five regiments of Foot Guards. These units—the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish, and Welsh Guards—are famously responsible for protecting the British monarch. The museum began its life not as a public tourist destination, but as an educational tool for new military recruits to learn the specific heritage of their regiments. It officially opened to the general public in 1988 to bridge the gap between these elite soldiers and the history they represent.
