The Drinker (Banksy)

In March 2004, the artist Banksy installed his first major sculpture in a small square near Shaftesbury Avenue. The piece, titled The Drinker, was a satirical take on Auguste Rodin's masterpiece, The Thinker. Banksy replaced the classical figure's contemplative pose with a slouched, inebriated man wearing an orange traffic cone on his head. It was a commentary on the disconnect between high art and the harsh realities of urban life, placed uncemented on a public plinth to be discovered by passersby.
