Henry Wellcome began his career as a pharmacist and eventually transformed his company into a global medical enterprise. He traveled across the Sudan and Egypt in the early twentieth century to fund and participate in archaeological excavations. These expeditions resulted in the acquisition of thousands of medical instruments, anatomical models, and cultural artifacts. He stored these objects in London as a personal attempt to chronicle the evolution of human health.
