The Rocket, Euston

The building you are approaching, now known as The Rocket, has occupied this site for over a century, though its story began much earlier under a different name. Originally called The Rising Sun, the pub was a local fixture as far back as the eighteen sixties, when it was managed by a publican named Alfred Punt. By the turn of the twentieth century, the original structure was cleared away to make room for the current red-brick building, which was completed in eighteen ninety-nine by the architects Shoebridge and Rising for the Cannon Brewery. If you look closely at the south gable near the roofline, you can still see a carved stone plaque depicting the sun rising over the sea, a permanent reminder of the building’s original identity.
