Burlington House

Burlington House began its life in the sixteen sixties as a residence for a lawyer and poet named Sir John Denham. He specifically chose this location because he believed no one would ever build further west into the fields, as it was considered far too distant from the busy center of London. He was wrong, of course, and the city eventually grew to surround the estate on all sides. Within years of its completion, the house was sold to the Earl of Burlington, who gave the building the name it still carries today.
