The Apollo Victoria Theatre was originally constructed in nineteen thirty as a super cinema named the New Victoria. Its architects designed the building with two identical, imposing facades facing Wilton Road and Vauxhall Bridge Road to manage the awkward geography of the site. Local taxi drivers once nicknamed the venue Sing Sing because its fortress-like exterior and dual street presence reminded them of the famous American prison.
