The Ferry Building was once the second-busiest transit terminal on the entire planet. Before the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges existed, fifty thousand commuters poured through these doors every single day to catch ferries to the East Bay and Marin. Travelers arriving by transcontinental train in Oakland finished their journey by boarding a boat to this very spot, making this building the true front door to San Francisco for millions of people.
