The Audiffred Building stands as a resilient survivor on the San Francisco waterfront. Built in eighteen eighty-nine, this Second Empire style structure features a distinct mansard roof and a facade decorated with nautical motifs like seahorses and dolphins. Local legend claims the building escaped destruction during the nineteen oh six earthquake because the bartender of the ground-floor saloon, known as the Bulkhead, bribed firefighters with whiskey and wine to spare the block. It remains one of the only buildings on the central waterfront to have weathered that historic disaster.
